Visiting the Kauri Forest

Our rental....it was a Toyota that had already drivien a good 140 000 kms and did well, though it was an automatic which took some getting used to!

Hannah and I infront of the oldest tree, Tane Mahuta. It wasn't the largest of the lot, but was pretty impressive none the less...especially when you consider it's been standing there for 2000 years!

A lovely artistic picture. Kauri trees are well liked becuase of their straight trunks which made them very useful for all sorts of things...though they are VERY slow growing trees.

Hannah admiring one of the younger Kauris. This one is probably a couple of hundred years old.

I got to hug one of the bigger lot, though not the largest or oldest because they were protected by fences. This was one of the "less" interesting ones along the pathway. None-the-less pretty impressive, don't you think?
